What We Think
I’ve never really been a huge Navitimer guy. The high quality replica watches always felt big and busy, but that’s kind of the point. As I’ve dug into more aviation-related stories and met more pilots, I’ve started to appreciate these watches as big, legible tools for those that choose to go the analog route, and in that light they’re starting to grow on me.
If I were searching for any Navitimer variant released since the watch’s inception, I’d likely be digging through the couch cushions for enough pennies to buy one of the vintage gold Cosmonauts. The gold-plated and two-tone Swiss movement replica Breitling they’ve done would be a close second. The black dial and use of large, lumed Arabic numerals on the 24-hour Cosmonaut line contrast well with the gold of the case. And contrast helps with legibility. That fact is shaping how I view this release.
The new 1:1 fake Breitling Navitimer Limited Edition release feels like a more dressy option for a Navitimer if such a thing exists for a watch with a slide-rule dial. With its anthracite dial and subtle contrast with the black subdials, it would be challenging to use as a navigational tool if your life depended on it in the air. But if you’re going out for a night on the town (or to a gathering with other pilots) and want a classic and slightly upscale reminder of your love of aviation, this isn’t a bad option to wear on the wrist.
